Kingsland 2018 was even more epic than ever with Lost Frequencies backstage experience
The 27th of April is a national holiday in the Netherlands. The Dutch king Willem Alexander celebrates his birthday with all inhabitants and visits every year another city of his little country. The Dutch celebrate this day-off their own way with garage sales, typical Dutch games and of course lots of festivals. Willem Alexander himself supports the dance scene and once spent time with Armin van Buuren on stage.
Of course we attended a festival to give you an idea of how the Dutch celebrate this yearly event. We visited Kingsland, a typical Kings day dance festival which expanded their festival ground to 4 different locations since its inception in Amsterdam (2013) and became the largest one-day festival in the Netherlands. Many famous Dutch artist performed at Kingsland like for example: Martin Garrix and Tiësto. Our destination was Kingsland Amsterdam which hosted 4 stages: Main Stage, TIKTAK, Kings Stage Hard (hardstyle) and Spinnin’ Sessions. This year’s headliner of Kingsland Amsterdam was Hardwell. The dress code during Kingsday is orange since this is the official color of the Royal Family.
The doors opened at 12 p.m. We entered and started our Kings day backstage where we met and interviewed Lost Frequencies half an hour before he performed at the main stage. Lost Frequencies is an Belgian DJ/producer who entered the DJ MAG top 100 on position 26 last year and is known for his famous songs “Are you with me” and “Reality”. On the day we met he released and played his brand new single “Melody” produced with James Blunt. Although he performed one hour after the doors opened, the stage was already full of people who didn’t want to miss a single beat of this young talented DJ. Lost Frequencies enjoyed playing at Kings day in his striking Orange Bathrobe we gave as a present before he went on stage!
After this incredible performance we were ready for a day full of music and joy. We started to walk around and checked the stages. TIKTAK hosted a stage were artists from different origins played together a mix of hiphop, house, RnB, dubstep, pop and moombathon. The TIKTAK stage was crowded during a lot of performances and received a lot of love from the Kingsland visitors. We continued to spot the Spinnin Sessions stage where we visited Mike Williams and Kriss Kross Amsterdam. The latter surprised us with a lot of well-known hit songs and moved the crowd to show their finest dance moves.
When we moved back to the Mainstage, Hardwell pleased the crowd with nostalgia. He played “Spaceman” combined with typical Dutch melodies that everybody hums out loud. He felt home wearing an orange T-shirt and boosting the crowd with his typical melodies.
The last act we saw was Timmy Trumpet, he sat in for DJ Snake who was unfortunately not able to be on time for his performance. The Australian was already in the mood since he played at the Kings Hard stage and opened his set with a lot of energy. The crowd immediately gained power and were happily surprised with his performance. Timmy jumped on his deck and involved the madness, throwing air trumpets into the crowd and shouted out loud. We enjoyed every minute of this crazy festival flooded in orange. Certainly a party to check out when you visit the Netherlands during Kings day!
